Welcome

Swimming tHrough Breast Cancer

One month after Breast Cancer Surgery Rowdy Gaines presents  me with my "High Point" Award!

This site is dedicated to helping swimmers, whether world-class competitors or fun and fitness swimmers have hope about getting back in the pool after breast cancer surgery. Early detection and being in great swimming shape made my journey through breast cancer easier than most.

Many people have asked me to tell my story to bring hope to others through focusing on returning to swimming.  My breast cancer surgery to remove an Invasive Ductal Carcinoma lump, a second (larger) benign lump and three of my lymph nodes (in my arm pit) took place on Wed. Nov. 16, 2016.  My Surgeon, Dr. Charles Cox, told me I could swim after 2-3 weeks out of the water. I took 2.5 weeks off to recover and gently returned to practice on Mon. December 5th.

One month to the day from my surgery I swam in the Rowdy Gaines Masters Classic on Dec. 16-18th, 2016. On the first day of the meet I swam the #1 time in my age group for the nation ranked by United States Masters Swimming (USMS). During the rest of the meet I swam two other USMS #1 times and set four Zone Records. I also won the High Point Award for my age-group!
